Connecting us across the great diaspora, the fiddle brings us our Michif language as music, in all its dialects of tempo. Design story: I’ve always found hummingbirds amazing in the way they move so quickly, yet can pause mid-flight in perfect balance. By combining hummingbirds with traditional Métis floral designs, I wanted to honour the beauty, strength, and resilience of Métis culture while bringing a personal connection into the artwork. This piece serves as a reminder to find balance in life, care for ourselves, and stay true to who we are.

Purse with Louis Riel’s sash pattern as a base and on top the Métis symbol traced in red.

Hand-made on a loom using alpaca wool, this lanyard’s design is based off of the Assomption sash design made in Assomption,Québec.  The earliest known origins of this design come from the 18th century (<1800).  It is the oldest known sash design.
